The Power of Choice
The greatest power a person can possess is the power to choose. I hear people complain all the time about how bad their life is or how they wish they could change their life or they are not living their ideal life. If you are not living your ideal life and want more out of life then change it. You have that choice.
When you have a choice mindset rather than a have to mindset it empowers you. You look at things differently if you know you have a choice in the matter. When you feel like you have to do something you are more apt not to do it as it feels like a chore. If something feels like a chore we really don’t feel like doing it. It is a struggle to get excited about doing it.
In fact we really don’t have to do anything do we? Think about it. Let me ask you a few questions. Do you feel like you have to go to work? Do you feel like you have to pay your taxes? Do you feel like you have to pay your bills?
I am here to tell you that you do NOT have to do any of those. You do not have to pay your taxes or go to work or pay your bills. That’s right! You don’t have to do any of that. Of course there are consequences to not doing those.
You will probably lose your job if you don’t go to work. You will probably end up in jail if you do not pay your taxes. You will probably lose your house and car and have your utilities shut off if you do not pay your bills.
So what is my point here? Well, my point is that you are making a choice of which set of consequences you would prefer. By saying that you have to pay your taxes is different from saying I am choosing to pay my taxes. There is a huge mind shift there. By saying that I have to pay my taxes puts a negative spin on it and makes you feel bad. By saying I choose to pay my taxes makes it feel better and like you are doing something good(as good as paying taxes can be).
When you choose to do something it empowers you and makes you feel better about doing it. It is not about enjoying some things that you must do but making yourself feel better about doing them and will do a better job at getting them done because you feel better about doing them.
When you are faced with tasks that seem to be unpleasant but must get done say to yourself I choose to do this now so I can go fishing or shopping later. By putting into the choose to mode you will not only get it done you will get it done quicker and better. By also giving yourself a reward like fishing or shopping or whatever it may be will also help you do it quicker and better.
This will also put you into accountability mode and not victim. Any time you are in victim mode you will usually procrastinate. By having this choose to mindset you will start to see things differently and you will start to see yourself being more productive and more efficient at what you do.
