Acknowledge Where You are Currently
By now you should’ve figured out that sometimes things just don’t work out the way you plan. I have found that most people want more than they already have and that there is nothing wrong with that. I believe we all deserve to have the very best in our life. What I caution against is to make sure that while you are working toward your dreams, that you don’t ignore the truth about where you are currently in your life.
One of the keys to opening the door to your desired future life is that you should acknowledge where you are presently in life right at this very moment.
A lot of people do not want to face the truth. They are afraid of what might happen if they really know where they are personally, financially, spiritually and even professionally. I have found that most people think they should be further along in life than what they currently are.
If you want to move forward toward the life that you desire then you have to know where you currently stand. You need to take inventory of your life.
Some of you are probably more afraid of what others might think if they really knew the truth about you and where you currently are in life. Let’s just forget about them right now. The single most important person to be truthful with is you. When you come right down to it you are the most important person in your life. If you are not honest with yourself you will not be honest with anyone else.
Maybe your plan is to own your own home some day or to be president of your own company. Maybe your dream is to have 1 million+ dollars in the bank by the time you are 30 years old.
Then you look around and you realize that 30 years, and gone and you’re still are renting a house. You realize that you’re still living paycheck to paycheck working at a job that you never thought you would be in and that you really don’t like.
You are dreaming about wanting more. You wonder why your old plan never materialized. Accept the fact that your old plan didn’t happen and you cannot keep looking back and wallowing in what could’ve been. So what can you do about it now?
You begin by creating a new plan and then starting one goal at a time and making it happen. Maybe your first new goal is to change jobs or to start your own business. You have unique skills that no one else on this planet has. Start to use them to create a career that you love. Just take that first step because after that you can move forward to create the life of your dreams one goal at a time.
Stop avoiding the truth of your life. Stop lying to yourself. It’s time to come clean with yourself and start moving your life forward.
THIS WEEK'S ACTION STEP
Here is this week’s personal exercise:
Time to get honest with yourself. Let’s forget about your goals for a minute and focus on getting really honest about where you are currently in life. The real truth about any situation is not what you wanted to be. It probably isn’t what it should be and it isn’t what it would have been.
No matter how much sugar coating you put on it will not make anything different as the truth is what it is.
It is time to take inventory of the current truth in all of these categories:
your physical self
your spiritual self
your financial self
your professional self
your personal self
In each category ask yourself these three questions:
How do I perceive this area of my life?
If I were being completely honest to myself how would I describe this area of my life?
Are the answers to the first two questions identical? If they are than you are being honest with yourself. If they aren’t it’s time to begin making them the same.
